Students

Head Magnet Middle School will maintain a professional learning environment. Standard School Attire (SSA) is an important part of learning valuable employability skills and maintaining focus on learning throughout the year.

Tops

Permitted:

• Any collared shirt
• HMMS spirit wear t-shirts

Not Permitted:

• Non-HMMS t-shirts
• Low-cut, midriff-revealing, see-through, racerback, or backless tops
• Vulgar, profane, offensive or inappropriate language, gang related, horror genre or symbols on the shirt

Bottoms

Permitted:

• Any color jean or chino material pant, shorts, skirts, skorts, jumpers, capris, jeans, and collared dresses (must be less than 3 inches above the fold of the knee)

Not Permitted:

• Sweatpants, athletic shorts, athletic pants, or bike shorts
• Leggings (except under shorts, skorts, skirts, or dresses)
• Sagging or see-through material

Outerwear

Permitted:

• Any outerwear
• HMMS spirit wear outerwear
• Heavy coats may be worn outside only

Not Permitted:

• Heavy coats inside (must be placed in lockers)
• Any kind of hat
• Any non-religious head-covering including scarfs that tie, hats, or bonnets
• Vulgar, profane, offensive or inappropriate language, gang related, horror genre or symbols

Shoes

Permitted:

• Any safe footwear

Not Permitted:

• Slides, flip flops, or slippers
• Shoes with wheels

Note: Safe footwear must be worn at all times. Flip flops, house shoes, slippers, and sandals without a heel strap are not considered safe.

Failure to follow the dress code procedures will result in disciplinary action.

Eighth grade students who love STEM and science and math can apply to the School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt.

Students who are accepted will take classes beginning in the 9th grade and throughout high school from professors and scientists at Vanderbilt.

Forms

• SCA Parent Athlete Form 23-24 - Athletic forms for any student who is participating in sports.
• Updated Head Magnet Student Laptop Agreement - must be signed and returned before laptop will be issued.

At Head Magnet students must be academically honest at all times. Cheating, dishonesty, and the misuse of the work of others and falsely claiming it as one’s own, constitutes behavior that is contrary to the sense of who we are as a community. At Head, we declare that instances of proven cheating and dishonesty in any form is inconsistent with our values and aspirations, and in particular, the following forms of behavior will not be tolerated at our school:

• 1. Copying the work (including homework, written assignments, or projects of any kind) of another student and representing it as one’s own
• 2. Copying or sharing the answers of another student during an exam, a test, or a quiz
• 3. Possessing or using notes or cheat sheets during an exam, a test, or a quiz
• 4. Plagiarism (which we define as “to represent the words or unique ideas of another as one’s own, or to quote the words of another individual or source in a written assignment without giving appropriate attribution to the true source”)
• 6. Students may not use AI to generate or heavily edit their assignments.
• 7. Obtaining from another student who has previously or already completed an assignment information relating to the assignment

We further declare that a student who aids another student in his or her enactment of any of the above described forms of dishonesty is equally guilty of the kinds of behavior that we as a community will not tolerate.

Head Magnet Academic Integrity Procedures

• 1st Offense: Referral to office, parent/guardian contacted, redo or complete alternate assignment from the teacher and receive a replacement grade. The redo or alternate assignment will follow the school policy for redoing summative assessments. Consequences: Restorative Conference; Document in S&I.
• 2nd Offense: Referral to office, redo or complete alternate assignment from the teacher and receive a replacement grade. The redo or alternate assignment will follow the school policy
• for redoing summative assessments. Consequences: Restorative Conference, Documented Level 102 Behavior Referral, Parent/Guardian conference to occur.
• 3rd Offense: Referral to office, restorative conference, parent/guardian contacted, redo or complete alternate assignment from the teacher and receive a replacement grade. The redo or alternate assignment will follow the school policy for redoing summative assessments. Parent meeting with administration requested. Consequences: Restorative Conference, Documented Level 102 Behavior Referral, Parent/Guardian conference to occur, Tiger Think Time during lunch/recess
